I am getting into this new cycle of my training with the expectation of getting practical knowledge about a theme that has always thrilled me, but that I've never had the chance to study formally : Education.
Through this course, my first goal is simple : I want to learn how to be a better teacher on a daily basis. I want medical students and residents to be glad when they know they will work with me on the clinical teaching unit. I want to learn helpful hints to enlighten their curiosity. My second goal is to learn tools to help my future colleagues integrate systematic teaching habits in their interactions with medical students and residents. These goals are important for me, because I want to develop a culture of teaching and learning in my institution. I know I will have achieved these two goals when I will be able to outline the blueprint of a clear, comprehensive plan to strengthen this culture into my general pediatrics department.
For the last ten years, while studying medicine and pediatrics, I had the privilege to learn great notions, but I want now to build something I will be able to rely on as I am defining more precisely my research orientations and my role in medical education for the next years. I want ideas that will remind me why I chose this program, and I feel that this course will let me develop these ideas.
